WampServer is a handy tool designed for Windows users, offering support for building websites in a local development environment. It’s completely free to download, allowing anyone to set up a local website without the need for an internet connection or a web host.
Once you’ve mastered the installation steps for WordPress on WampServer, you gain access to powerful features like Apache2, PHP, and a MySQL database, enabling you to build and manage your local site efficiently. Plus, you can easily handle administrative tasks using phpMyAdmin.
1. Download WAMP
To get started, go to the WampServer website and navigate to Downloads. There you’ll see two options – 64 BITS and 32 BITS.
To get started, you should download the appropriate version of WampServer based on your computer’s operating system (OS) type. If you’re unsure about your OS, follow these steps: Go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> System, and check the System Type section. This will tell you whether you have a 64-bit or 32-bit OS. Once you know your system type, download the corresponding WampServer file.
2. Define Your Default Browser
Once you’ve downloaded the right file, locate the folder where it’s saved and open it. From there, simply click on the WampServer execution file to kick off the installation process. This action will launch the installation wizard for you to follow along.
Next, proceed with the installation by following the provided instructions, which involve accepting the License Agreement. Additionally, you’ll be prompted to designate a destination location for installing WampServer.

3. Launch phpMyAdmin and Log In
When using WampServer for the first time, initiate the program from the Start menu. Following this action, a fresh icon will emerge in the taskbar.
Ensure that the icon maintains a green appearance, indicating the smooth functioning of all components. Should you encounter a red or yellow icon, promptly resolve any underlying issues by restarting the program.
Next, proceed to access phpMyAdmin, the designated tool for MySQL database management. Alternatively, you may navigate to the phpMyAdmin interface by opening your preferred web browser and entering “localhost” into the address bar. This action will lead you to the WampServer server configuration page.

To log in to the phpMyAdmin interface, input “root” in the username field on the login screen. Leave the password field empty.
Once done, click on the “Go” button to proceed and gain access to the phpMyAdmin dashboard.
4. Create a Database and Install WordPress
Navigate to the tabs located at the top of the page and select “Databases.” Here, you can create a new database for your WordPress site.
Enter a name for your new database into the provided textbox. Then, select the appropriate Collation from the dropdown menu.

After downloading WordPress as a ZIP file, extract its contents. Then, copy the extracted WordPress folder.
Next, navigate to the directory where WAMP is installed. This directory is typically located at C:\wamp\www. Paste the copied WordPress folder into this directory.
Now, feel free to rename the WordPress folder to whatever you prefer. For example, you could name it “mytestingsite” or any other descriptive title that reflects the purpose of your local WordPress site. Ensure that the chosen name is clear and indicative of the site’s content or purpose, as it will also serve as the URL and title for your local WordPress site.
5. Visit Your Testing Site
To finalize the installation of WordPress on WampServer, open your web browser and type http://localhost/mytestingsite into the address bar. Ensure to substitute “mytestingsite” with the name you designated earlier.
Once you’ve accessed the link, you’ll kickstart the WordPress setup process. Select your preferred language to continue. When asked to input the database details, utilize “root” as the username and keep the password field blank.
To access the WordPress dashboard of your local site, just click on “Log in” after completing the setup process. From this point, you can start testing and troubleshooting as required.
